Bowers & Pitsea 1

Barking put up a strong defensive showing but were undone by a stroke of luck and a calm finish from former Blue Quentin Monville.

It was Barking who went closest early on as Ola Ogunwamide's low cross found Brendan Ocran at the far post but he saw his goal bound effort blocked by a defender and then saw the rebound blocked. Bowers had the best chance after 29 minutes however as Gary Cohen bought down Monville in the box. Knight stepped up but he saw his effort caught by Tim Brown as he dived to his left. Abs Seymour saw his free kick just before half time hit the sidenetting but it was all aquare at the break.

After the interval the home side continued to defend well and get forward as much as possible. But on on 69 minutes Bowers took the lead through Quentin Monville as a double deflection from Ryan Cosson and Jack Edwards left him through on goal to slot home. Barking went close late on when sub Darelle Russell did well to connect with the ball and get his shot on target but Bowers keeper Andy Wilton was equal to the effort and it meant Bowers who left with all three points.

We take a break from our league campaign on Tuesday as we are home to Tower Hamlets in the London Senior and friends from the Essex Senior League, no doubt Justin Gardner will want to beat his old club and in doing so set up another home tie against Dulwich Hamlet in the quarter finals.
