BARKING DISMISSED AT THE DOUBLE
A quick-fire double as the game entered its latter stages was enough for Bury Town who ran out 2-0 winners over an out of sorts Barking who no doubt were still suffering from last week’s nine goal hammering by Bowers & Pitsea.
As expected Justin Gardner made changes from last weeks starting line-up and in total there were six: the most notable being Tim Brown replacing Montel Joseph between the sticks and recently signed Henry Fisher replacing Jack McQueen as Ryan Cosson’s partner in central defence.
In what was a game largely struggling for quality Bury went close early on but it was Barking’s Alex Teniola who forced a good save from Bury keeper Luis Tibbles with his volley from the edge of the box with 24 minutes gone. Barking did have the ball in the net twice in the first half from Nana Boakye-Yiadom but both were ruled out for offside.
Into the second half and Boakye-Yiadom this time onside and clear on goal was denied by the foot of Tibbles as the home side created their best chance of the game. Bury also suffered a disallowed goal by the assistant referee’s flag but finally broke the deadlock after 70 minutes as Emmanuel Machaya wriggled free from defenders and slotted home. The lead was doubled and the points made sure of six minutes later as Barking failed to clear a corner with Ollie Hughes flicking the ball home to secure the points.
Next Saturday it is another local away day as we head to Aveley’s Parkside ground to take on Grays Athletic with a 3pm kick off.
