Barking 2

Great Wakering Rovers 0

After a poor first half and in truth for part of the second Barking eventually triumphed with two Nana Boakye-Yiadom strikes to seal our first ever league double over Great Wakering.

On the playing front Ben O'Brien made his 371st senior appearance equalling Peter Burton in our appearance records since 1969 and Billy Reynolds fresh from Saturday's sub appearance made his first start since last March in place of the injured Jordan Peart. Jack Roult turned in another accomplished perormance this time in the middle of the park and as did another Jack - McQueen in defence. Both of them are fine representatives' for Barking's younger players. Wakering included a couple of former Blues in Hussain Jaffa and Shomari Barnwell.

Barking thought they had the perfect start on three minutes when Jack Roult headed home a Billy Reynolds cross: but the goal was disallowed for a foul on Wakering keeper Louis Hawes. It took another 22 minutes for any chance of note to arrive and it came when Nana Boakye-Yiadom made a powerful run into the box and his cross just evaded Larry Akanbi and the opportunity went begging. On 32 a free kick gave Billy Reynolds the chance to test Hawes but although on target his effort was comfortably saved. With half time approaching another Reynolds free kick for a foul on Abs Seymour was more powerful but just cleared the bar.

The pattern continued after the break for Barking: but with six minutes gone only a Joe Bruce goal line clearance prevented Wakering taking the lead with Montel Joseph away from his goal. On 55 the Blues were in front when continued persistence from Rashid Kamara paid off and he found Larry Akanbi whose shot was first parried by Hawes who then palmed the ball into the air to Abs Seymour's whose follow up shot was touched by Nana Boakye-Yiadom as it crossed the line to put Barking a goal to the good. Wakering thought they had scored on 64 when they where firstly denied by a block by Jack McQueen and then a fine save at his near post by Montel Joseph. A good cross by Roult was headed wide by Ben O'Brien as the home side looked to extend their lead. Billy Reynolds had another free kick chance but this one from the Barking right wing curled over the bar. It was two nil on 75 when a drop kick by Montel Joseph found Ola Ogunwamide who had only been on the pitch two minutes and his cross was slid home by Nana Boakye-Yiadom. Wakering tried to fight back but they were unable to breach a home defence buoyed by a two goal cushion. Barking should of had further goals: Boakye-Yiadom was denied a hat trick by Hawes, Seymour's shot curled over, Ogunwamide's effort was saved low to his right by Hawes and fellow sub Tobi Joseph could not get a telling shot away when well placed.

In the end after struggling to make the vital breakthrough Barking ran out comfortable winners.

We remain thirteenth in the table but are seperated by only a few points from the clubs above us. On Saturday we travel to Cambridgeshire to take on Soham Town Rangers who sit two places below us and Barking will be striving for another league double.
