BLUES BLOW SWIFTS OFF COURSE

Barking made it three wins on the bounce after they blew away playoff contenders Heybridge Swifts 4-1. Barking took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Ryan Cosson and Tobi Joseph before Harrison Chatting halved the deficit. Nana Boakye-Yiadom again doubled the lead before Billy Reynolds secured all three points late on.

The windy conditions played a massive part in proceedings with both sides struggling to keep the ball under control and Barking who were able to take advantage first as Ricky Tarbard’s corner was palmed in the air by Haigh leaving Ryan Cosson to nod the ball home from a yard out. It was two-nil from another Tarbard set piece eleven minutes later as Tobi Joseph rose home to nod his long throw into the corner of the net. The lead lasted just a minute as straight from kick-off a low cross found Chatting who tapped home. Heybridge found their feet going forward but found themselves two down again just before half time as free-kick found Nana Boakye-Yiadom who curled the ball into the top left corner from 25 yards to make it four goals in his last three games.

As with last Saturday Barking took a two goal lead into the interval and again produced a strong defensive performance as Heybridge pressed forward throughout the second half with the home defence standing firm with Montel Joseph able to deal with any high balls that came his way. A fourth looked likely if Barking were able to mount a counterattack and with minutes remaining left-back Billy Reynolds carried the ball forward and latched onto a through ball, he saw his shot initially saved and loop in the air with the spin taking it into the net to secure all three points and score his first goal in a Barking shirt since September 2015.

This coming Tuesday (March 19th) there is a home friendly against Essex Senior League new boys St Margaretsbury FC kick off 7:45pm and next Saturday it’s down the A13 to visit runaway league leaders Bowers & Pitsea.
