FULL REPORT TO FOLLOW - Interim report
It was a game only on thanks to the diligent work on the pitch undertaken by the Barking FC ground staff but it is not one that’ll live long in the memory.
Barking started off well and seemed to be on top before they were pegged back as a corner was headed onto the post by Soham but was bundled home by Lee Chaffey after 14 minutes. Barking enjoyed the better play for the rest of the half with Quentin Monville finding joy on the righthand side - Barking went close when his powerful cross was met by Kemo Darboe but he couldn’t direct his header on goal.
Soham on the main stood firm and their defensive strength was rewarded as Barking made a defensive mistake halfway through the second half. Toib Adeyemi attempted to chest a cross back to goalkeeper Olajide but he had unfortunately left his goal to collect leaving the ball to trickle into an empty net. Perhaps the only real positive for Barking was the return of Billy Reynolds at left-back, who completed 69 minutes in his first appearance after suffering a serious knee injury in a preseason fixture last season.
