Barking beaten by Takeley in Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy semi-final
Barking’s hopes of a double this season are over after being knocked out in the semi-finals of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy at home to Takeley.
Both sides battled out the first half and neither could break the deadlock. The second half followed suit until the Blues came close with a glancing header just over the bar from Petrit Elbi just before the hour mark.
When top goalscorer James Peagram hit the outside netting with a powerful drive on his left foot, it seemed like the tie was starting to go the hosts’ way.
However luck wasn’t on Barking’s side on the night and when Takelely were gifted a soft free-kick on the edge of the box, they made the most of the Blues’ failure to clear their lines and got the winner in the 78th minute.
Barking pressed on for the final ten minutes and forced Takeley onto the back foot and the away side were reduced to 10 men with five minutes to play, however Barking couldn’t find an equaliser.
Takeley’s 1-0 win means they will meet Waltham Forest in the final, who beat Eton Manor 6-5 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.
