FULL REPORT TO FOLLOW - Interim report

Barking ended up with a deserved share of the spoils after an evenly-fought battle at Park Lane.

The visitors had the better of the first half and took the lead with another Billy Jones penalty.

But the Gulls rallied after the restart and levelled within eight minutes to ensure honours finished even.

Blues included three Canvey old boys in their squad, including Dan Gilchrist, Teddy Nesbitt and Martin Tuohy.

And they began well, with Gilchrist volleying over the bar on five minutes, before Abs Seymour saw a shot cleared by Steve Sheehan.

Justin Gardner’s men took the lead on 25 minutes when Kiernan Hughes-Mason went down in the box under Nathan Fox’s challenge to earn a penalty and Billy Jones converted from the spot.

The hosts had their first sight of goal on 34 minutes when Mitchell Gilbey found George Sykes, whose shot on the turn flew over.

And they were back on terms early in the second half when Sykes took a quick throw and Sam Collins saw his cross reach substitute Frankie Merrifield, who fired in off the underside of the crossbar.

Barking went close to regaining the lead soon after when Adem Ramadan produced a good run and picked out Jones, whose low shot was well saved by Jack Giddens, who pushed it onto the foot of a post.

Hughes-Mason was denied by a timely Ashley Dumas tackle before Ricky Tarbard pulled off a similarly impressive interception at the other end to thwart Ryan Charles.

A diving Emmanuel Olajide turned a low shot from Sykes behind for a corner on 64 minutes, then repeated the trick eight minutes later.

And Sykes had appeals for a penalty turned down late on, following a tackle from Akwasi Marfo, before Barking had a chance to snatch the win with only two minutes left.

A long ball found Jones, who got past Sheehan and was fouled by Merrifield, who was shown a second yellow card and dismissed.

But Seymour’s free-kick was blocked by the wall and the 10 men of Canvey held on during four minutes of stoppage time.
