Barking powered past struggling Cheshunt as goals for Hughes-Mason, Gilchrist, Shaban and Seymour gave Barking a 4-0 win at Cheshunt. The Blues are now on a six game unbeaten run in Bostik North after a shaky start to the season.

Cheshunt came close to taking the lead after just 5 minutes as the Blues lost the ball in their own box with the ball falling to a striker who skied the ball over Olajide’s goal. Barking thought they had taken the lead after 13 minutes as Kiernan Hughes-Mason poked home but he had already been flagged offside. Barking went close again 5 minutes later as Alan Taylor’s volley from 30 yards smacked the crossbar after a Cheshunt defender had knocked down a long ball. Barking had to be on their toes however as Akwasi Marfo cleared a header off the line after 23 minutes. Taylor went close again two minutes later but his time he saw his curling effort palmed away by Joseph in the Cheshunt goal. The chances stopped flowing but Barking grabbed the lead before half-time as a chipped corner by Abs Seymour to the near post found an unmarked Kiernan Hughes-Mason who glanced the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for 1-0 to Barking.

Hughes-Mason saw his header saved after 49 minutes but he turned provider minutes later as he latched onto Olajide’s long goal kick before cutting back from the left wing of the box and sliding the ball across to Dan Gilchrist who had time to set himself before driving the ball home to double Barking’s lead. Jason Hallett thought he had a way back into the game for Cheshunt five minutes later but his effort was disallowed for offside. The game slowed before coming alive in the final five minutes – Billy Jones saw his side foot effort curl just wide before Joseph was on hand to tip over Sam Shaban’s effort. The resultant corner saw only Shaban and Knight in the box but Seymour was able to float the ball to Sam Shaban who beat his man to rise up and head the ball in to give Barking their third goal.

After setting up two goals it was time for Seymour to get involved himself as Barking pressure forced Cheshunt into mistakes – the ball ended up with Jones on the right wing – he played the ball back to Ben O’Brien who played it inside to Abs Seymour – he put the ball on his left foot before curling the ball around the dive of Joseph and into the bottom corner of the net to add some final gloss to the scoreline as Barking ran out 4-0 winners.
