Tonight was our first appearance in the Third Round of the Essex Senior Cup for a number years and it ended in frustation with a narrow defeat to Coggeshall Town aka "The Seed Growers" in our first ever encounter.

Early on the attacking axis of Rashid Kamara and Ola Ogunwamide down the Barking left caused a number of problems for the home defence and with the back four looking solid and Tim Brown dealing with anything coming his way we gave as good as we got in a low key first half. On 43 the best chance of the game up to that point fell to Town's Correy Davidson who broke away from a Barking corner but Ricky Tarbard dealt with the danger and it kept the scores level at the inteval. However, no-one could claim it was a classic.

Barking made a good start to the second half and with a dangerous corner causing confusion the ball fell to Ryan Cosson and Joe Bruce but neither could make the vital contact to direct the ball goalwards and this was followed by good shots from Daniel Cheema and Emmanuel Ighorae which were blocked. On 72 minutes the game moved away from the Blues when good interplay and an old fashioned one-two had Sam Bantick bearing down on goal and he made no mistake firing past Brown for one nil. Ricky Tarbard produced an excellent cross which onrushing sub Larry Akanbi could not keep his shot down. Further problems accrued with following a heavy tackle on Ighorae he could not continue and we finished the game with ten men. The final frustration occurred when from a late corner Akanbi's shirt was clearly being pulled in the area - but the referee decided it did not warrant a spot kick which no doubt would of lead to a set of deciding penalties.

On Saturday in the Bostik League we visit the ground of a team we have played many times: Great Wakering Rovers and no doubt we will be looking to improve on our poor record in recent times.
