Barking progressed to the second round of FA Cup Qualifying thanks to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Thurlow Nunn side Gorleston. Goals from Theo Ola, Alan Taylor and a brace for Dan Gilchrist were enough for the Blues who comfortably outclassed their opposition.

Barking controlled the possession for the majority of the start of the game and it took 15 minutes for the first chance of note as Alan Taylor cut in from the left wing but could only shoot over the bar. Gorleston hit back five minutes later as their striker dinked past two Barking defenders but his curled effort was off target. Jay Knight on his first start for Barking came close after 24 minutes but is effort was too close to the goalkeeper. Barking took a deserved lead after 28 minutes however as Abs Seymour found space on the left wing – his low cross evaded Knight but found Theo Ola at the far post who side footed the ball into the roof of the net to open the scoring. Seymour was forced off with a knock shortly after and Dan Gilchrist took his place. Dan Gilchrist made it 2-0 after 36 minutes as Ola’s cross was headed down to him by a defender and he took the opportunity to place a volley into the bottom left corner of the net. The half ended with three good chances in the las two minutes – two for Barking and one for Gorleston. Firstly a Toib Adeyemi header from a Krasniqi long throw crept wide before goal scorer Gilchrist forced the Gorleston stopper into another smart save. Gorleston nearly went in to the half time break with a goal as a good block from Steve Willis led to a corner which evaded the punch of Bowles but was volleyed wide.

Barking opened the second half on the front foot and the lead was nearly three goals as Krasniqi forced a good save from a narrow angle but the ball came back to him and he launched a venomous volley that smacked the post with the goalkeeper totally motionless. Krasniqi was involved when the third goal did arrive five minutes later as he switched play from the right wing to the left wing where it found Alan Taylor who cut in on the edge of the box and saw his low shot take a deflection before finding the bottom right corner of the net with the goalkeeper helpless. Adeyemi was then denied as his bouncing header was well saved by the feet of the goalkeeper. Gilchrist was then denied a second by another great save this time as he attempted a shot from a long throw in. Blues finally broke the resistance after 72 minutes as Alan Taylor squared the ball to Dan Gilchrist who saw his initial effort blocked but the ball fall back to him to poke through the legs of the goalkeeper to round off another impressive performance. It was nearly five a minute later as the goalkeeper did well to palm away Ola’s swerving shot for a corner with the corner being headed onto the bar by Steve Willis. With 15 minutes left there was another good chance for Barking from a counterattack as Gilchrist squared to sub Ernest Okoh but his shot was just wide. As the game entered its final 10 minutes there was a chance for Gilchrist to secure a hattrick as Krasniqi drove into the box before back heeling to Alan Taylor who floated a cross to Gilchrist but his header was too close to the goalkeeper.
There was still time for one final Gilchrist chance as he attempted to beat the ‘keeper at his near post but saw his shot palmed onto the post.

Barking will be happy with the win and the chance now to face Vanarama South Dartford in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
