Grays Athletic 2

Barking 2

It ended all square at Parkside as Grays and Barking contested a well fought draw which could of gone of either way but on reflection was a fair result. Barking’s goals were scored by Rashid Kamara and Abs Seymour which were sandwiched between two goals from the impressive Jacob Hutchison whose cool finishing belied his age of 16.

Grays applied early pressure and the Barking back line held firm and we had an early chance when Ola Ogunwamide ‘s shot was saved by home keeper Clark Bogard - but Grays came closest when Joao Carlos hit bar with Tim Brown beaten and thankfully the ball bounced to safety. The first goal of the game arrived on 14 minutes with Barking unable to clear the ball properly and it eventually fell to Jacob Hutchison and his low shot found the corner of the net. Barking were only behind for three minutes when a foul on Rashid Kamara resulted in a free kick which the same player delightfully placed beyond Bogard and into the corner of the net. However, parity only lasted a short while when on 22 minutes a poor back pass by Ryan Cosson let Hutchison through on goal and he gave Brown no chance and put the home side back in front. Barking hit back immediately and the impressive Ogunwamide found Alex Teniola whose shot hit the crossbar and again bounced away to safety, Teniola then won the ball to set up Abs Seymour who let fly and although on target his shot was turned behind by Bogard at full stretch. The last Barking chance of the first half saw Teniola’s cross elude the incoming Ogunwamide.

Barking came out more positively in the second half and did their best to pressurise Grays and find an equaliser and they were rewarded on 52 when Teniola found Kamara in the box and following some nifty footwork his hanging cross was headed home by Abs Seymour with Ben O’Brien in close attendance. A poor Bogarde goal kick landed at the feet of Teniola who fed Ogunwamide who then charged into the area but his shot flashed wide of the post and then the same player through on goal didn’t connect properly with his shot and Bogarde saved with his feet. Grays fought back and this time Carlos was denied by Tim Brown with a good save - near full time there was a close shave for Barking when a spell of pressure a shot by Grays Corey Davidson beat Brown but thankfully Billy Reynolds was well placed to clear the ball of the line and secure the visitors a point.

Next Saturday is our last Saturday home game of the season and relegation threatened Mildenhall Town are the visitors with a 3pm kick-off.
