Great Wakering 0

Barking 3

A day of firsts: Eusebio De Silva who has been a regular scorer for our Under 23's and earlier this season scored seven goals in six games for Clapton marked his first start with a goal. We had another screamer from Cheema and today's result was our first win at Burroughs Park since December 2000 and our first league win on Wakering's home turf in seven previous visits, spread across three different leagues. Included on the Wakering bench was a recent Blue in Joe Benjamin.

In sunny but windy conditions Ola Ogunwamide's goalbound shot was blocked and the home side had a couple of efforts which were wide of Tim Brown's goal. However, our first goal came on 19 from a Daniel Cheema corner which found the net despite a desperate last ditch clearance with Ben O'Brien claiming the last touch. However, the ball was clearly over the line. The home side were mainly kept at bay but a corner produced some danger in the Barking box but it ended with nothing more than another corner, from that another home effort went wide of our goal. On 28 minutes later the visitors doubled their lead when a Cheema corner was pushed away by home keeper Coey Turipa to the charging Daniel Cheema who produced another away day special to make it 2-0. It seemed that from every type of set piece Barking were a threat.

Understandably Wakering came out for the second half and tried to take the game to Barking in search of reducing the arrears. But our defensive unit held firm and the points were effectively sealed on 62 when following some good interplay Ricky Tarbard's pass down the line was chased downinto the penalty area by Eusebio De Silva who robbed Wakering's Simon Glover, cut inside and fired home for his first senior Barking goal. Following this Wakering brought on Joe Benjamin but "The Tank" could not release Barking's grip on the game and was booked for a foul on O'Brien in the process. Ogunwamide nearly scored our fourth but was denied by Turipa, Russell and Da Silva had shots blocked, Brown tipped a dangerous Wakering effort over the bar.

In the end Barking ran out worthy winners and next week welcome Felixstowe & Walton United to Mayesbrook Park for their first league visit.
