Heybridge Swifts 2
A tough and fruitless afternoon for Barking at the Aspen arena home of Heybridge Swifts, despite a solid performance they came away goalless and pointless after goal in each half from the Swift's Matthew Price. Heybridge included in their starting line up former players Toib Adeyemi and Kreshnic Krasniqi and Michael Mignot's second half substitute appearance was his first since joining us.
Early on Tim Brown had to make a smart save from the threatening Price, but Barking battled on and a Jordan Peart cross flicked on Joshua Davision just eluded Darelle Russell at the far post. A Russell shot ended up just wide - however, on 25 minutes the game changed wtth Peart being tackled and the ball played forward between our centre backs to Matthew Price, who gave Brown no chance with his shot into the corner of the net. The Blues tried to fight with Rashid Kasmara's free kick only finding the arms of home keeper Chris Haigh, Abs Seymour's shot finding the side netting and a succession of penalty area blocks stopping us from equalising. As half time neared a dangerous Heybridge effort flashed just wide of our goal.
The early second half exchanges were even with Adeyemi having to be alert to intercept a Davision cross with Russell just behind him. With 68 gone Heyrbidge sealed the points when Krasniqi forced a corner which was not cleared properly and the ball was played to Matthew Price who finished clinically again albeit from closer range. Again Barking battled on with a Daniel Cheema free kick forcing a good save from Haigh tipping the ball over the bar, but Heybridge hit with a header from a corner which smacked the bar and Brown managed to punch clear. In the end Heybridge held for the three points and Barking are now 13th in the table.
Our Under 23's lost one nil to Alresford Colne Rangers in the third round of the Essex FA Saturday Premier Cup.
Next Saturday Barking entertain our old Essex Senior League rivals Bowers & Pitsea who currently sit in second place in the table and will no doubt be another tough proposition.
