BARKING FAIL TO RAISE THE (POTTERS) BAR
Barking fell to back-to-back defeats as they struggled to get going away to Potters Bar. Potters Bar took the lead after 30 minutes through Sean Grace and despite Barking’s effort they failed to force many chances and the game was out of reach after 80 minutes as Eoin Casey scored a second for Potters Bar.
It was an equal first 25 minutes with half chances for both Potters Bar and Martin Tuohy in a Barking shirt but neither came close to troubling the goalkeeper. The first good chance fell to Potters Bar after 29 minutes and they capitalised as both defenders and Olajide in the Barking goal failed to clear the ball and the ball fell at the feet of Sean Grace who accepted the invitation to prod the ball home. Barking managed to fashion a good chance after 40 minutes as a quick free kick led to a low cross by Ricky Tarbard which found Dan Gilchrist but his effort on goal was blocked. The resultant corner led to a scramble involving both sides but eventually Potters Bar managed to get the ball away.
Potters Bar started the second half as the better team but the first chance fell to Barking after 57 minutes after Albert Levett was fouled on the edge of the box but the resultant free kick fell wide of the post. Barking seemed comfortable in possession but failed to create chances as it took until the 75th minute for another chance as Levett’s cross was put wide by Tuohy. Barking were made to pay for the lack of chances as after 80 minutes pressure was built thanks to a succession of dangerous free kicks- a powerful shot was saved by the rebound fell kindly to Eoin Casey who smashed the ball home to guarantee all three points for Potters Bar.
