Ricky Tarbard's ton up

Saturday December 30th 2017

Prior to today’s game with AFC Hornchurch Chairman Rob O’Brien presented Ricky Tarbard with a silver salver to mark his 100th appearance against Witham Town on Boxing Day.

Ricky started his career in our Reserve team and was part of the side which lost an Essex Senior Reserve League play off against Canvey Island in May 2014 under Jeff Sears.

His first senior appearance came against FC Romania in the Gordon Brasted Trophy on August 26th 2015 and he went onto make 25 appearances, alternating with the Reserve team in 2015/16. The next season (2016/17) he firmly established himself as a first team regular and was an integral part of our Essex Senior League championship winning side and scored his first senior goal against Redbridge in the opening league game of the season completing the scoring in a 4-0 win. Due to injury Ricky proved his versatility by playing at left back for a number of games. This season the step up to a new level has not been a problem and he has continued to impress.

Ricky has been recognised by his peers and managers:
2013/14 - Reserve team Managers young player of the year
2014/15 - Reserve team Managers player of the year
2015/16 - First team Managers young player of the year
2015/16 - Players player of the year
2016/17 - Supporters player of the year - Third

Chairman Rob O’Brien commented: “This is a really good news story: a local Barking & Dagenham boy who went to Grafton school. When in year 6 he was invited to come along to coaching sessions held by a Barking FC Coach (Rob). Continuing these sessions in year 7 for Robert Clack School that season saw Ricky and his team mates, including Timi Abiola, a current first teamer saw him win the Essex schools cup. Playing through the ranks of the Barking FC Youth teams and their Scholarship Programme, reaching the Under 19 National final at Wycombe wanders. Ricky broke into the first team at 17 after a season and a bit in the Reserves. After his first full season in the first team Ricky was awarded the prestigious players player of the year trophy by his peers. Following winning the ESL championship Ricky has been ever present as right back and fully deserves this current landmark in his fruitful football career.”
