Barking played out their first goalless draw of the season in a forgettable game at Rookery Hill. However, the visitors did have their chances in either half to win the game but they lacked the clinical finishing that been so evident in their last league game against Basildon United.
In blustry conditions both sides huffed and puffed but could not find the knockout blow. Romford keeper Harry Aldridge was largely untroubled until around the half hour mark when first Rashid Kamara was through on goal but planted his shot into the home stopper's midriff. A couple of minutes later he had to be on his toes to turn Jack Edwards long distance lob over bar for what would of been a spectacular goal to follow up his one at Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday. With half time approaching Ryan Cosson from Ross Elsom corner had a free header which cleared the bar
At the interval Justin Gardner made a change with Kemo Darboe replacing Darelle Russell who possibly was still suffering from the injury he received last Saturday. It was Darboe who had the first chance for Barking on 54 when Kamara played him in on goal but his angled shot was the wrong side of the post. Probably Romford's best chances came firstly when the ball was given away cheaply in defence and Malaki Toussaint fired wide leaving Tim Brown untroubled and shortly afterwards the home side's Alfie Cleal fired into the side netting to remind Barking of their threat. Darboe got onto the end of a free kick but his back flick header just cleared the goal. With both sides looking unable to penetrate their defences, there was one last moment drama deepo into added time when Rashid Kamara beat Aldrdge to the ball but could only find the side netting - and that was that.
We have a friendly at Mayesbrook Park this coming Tuesday (January 15th) when we entertain Stansted FC who were our regular opponents in the Essex Senior League kick off 7:45pm. Moving on to next Saturday we are at home to Canvey Island in the Bostik League kick off 3pm.
