Three sessions in and so far so good at Mayesbrook Park. Pleasing turnouts and a positive attitude from all concerned so some reasons for optimism already. Will get harder, but the players know that, have introduced the ball at an early stage this year and that in itself is looking after some of the fitness concerns. Will increase the fitness workload in the next two weeks, Steve's dreaded 'sticks' locked away in the back-room and ready to make an appearance soon so there's no hiding even for Armo. Also looking to trim the size of the squad soon, too many at training at the moment and that can affect the overall quality of sessions, first friendly only two weeks away so some hard decisions to make in the near future. Still no press announcement, but the new coach has made a positive impact already, sound Health & Safety knowledge and can pick a man-hole cover on a pitch as surely as a 40 yard pass. In all seriousness, has the ability to simplify the game and not overcomplicate things and I’m sure the lads will benefit from that. Have also mixed the training with no first/reserve team distinction from last year, everyone in it together, even the coaches and I think the results are showing already. Long way to go, some positive signs but only that, it's a beginning; the real work starts in August so we're under no illusions to what needs to be done. Enough for now off to design a drill that Duckie can actually understand without colour coding his boots - so could be gone some while.
