August 5th - A Friendly outlook

A mixed bag of results but plenty to ponder for the management team. Steve always stressed that this stage of the season is for the players to get minutes under the belt and for the management to try things, so mission accomplished on these counts.

Just how beneficial pre season has been will become apparent at Takeley next weekend but the players will certainly be up for it as the serious business finally begins.

Perhaps a good thing that we ended preparation with a right royal stuffing by a competent Leyton side, gave the ball away far too often in our own defensive third and were made to pay heavily. At least showed some pride second half, made Leyton work harder to get the ball forward, keeping a much more compact shape. Big lessons to take on board in the coming weeks, so response at Takeley will be interesting.

In between defeats to Waltham Forest and Leyton, promising signs as we eased past Phoenix and Kentish Town with some style. Particularly impressive against Kentish Town, kept the ball well and dictated the tempo from the start, another goal for the in form Mark Steadman and glimpses of a blossoming partnership with Rual Sandiford up front.

Enough looking back, now fully focused on next week's trip up the M11. Preparation hampered by an ever increasing injury list, but that's no excuse. Some very good players on the fringes of this squad so a chance for them to step up, fielded three teams last Saturday so an indication of the strength in depth this year, testimony as well to Rob and Jeff's excellent handling of the reserve team, important to know that player's have a worthwhile alternative to first team football and they are certainly providing that.

Last word and a message to the supporters, have appreciated efforts with the ground, even cut the pitch recently and that's beyond the call of duty, know they will be out in force next Saturday so can hopefully deliver a performance to match their dedication.
