February 7th - 'Burn Out' at Burnham

Mixed emotions post match, the overriding one pride in the lads for a battling second half display. Took the game to Burnham even with ten men, had the champions elect literally trying to sky the ball out of the ground by the end despite their numerical advantage and that did the home side little credit in the scheme of things. That said they're a good side and a hard nut to crack, can take comfort that we've pushed them all the way twice now and probably deserved something more meaningful than widespread praise from the two games.

Came to Burnham wanting to put on a show and avenge the recent narrow loss but unfortunately this never materialised. A little toothless first half although always in a rather scrappy game. Fell behind to a rare Clarkey mistake but for me not the right decision in the first place, felt the player had to do more to get round Ducky who's entitled to stand his ground although very much a defenders opinion and it's the Ref's that counts.

Unfortunately Ref's opinion counted on too many occasions and not always right in my eyes, this should have been a good game but it wasn't controlled assertively in fact there was very little control at all, stop-start all afternoon and this suited Burnham more than us particularly once ahead. Never able to build any rhythm or fluidity to our game, couldn't even take quick free kicks due to over fussy and incorrect officialdom. Some big decisions on the day, felt their was a clear penalty area push on Des just yards from the Ref but that was just the tip of a very large iceberg that all but sunk our title aspirations. Burnham also seemed to have a clear goal ruled out so disenchantment all round, just felt we got the rough end in the final reckoning.

George dismissed second half, what for is anyone's guess but we did respond to this adversity, Burnham certainly creaking by the end, Gary Mac's stunning volley ends up in the net and we'd be celebrating a terrific point but that's how cruel football can be.

No time to feel sorry for ourselves, leaders Stansted in town Tuesday so another stab at a team at the top - hopefully no slip ups this time around.
