Real case of déjà' vu here and a certain amount of inevitability about the result. Rewind a week and little change from events at Burnham, plenty of effort, plenty of possession but still lacking the killer instinct to break teams down.
Sawbo defended efficiently but by and large carried little threat, little more precision and patience should have guaranteed us the points but it was not be be. Big decisions again went against us but would be clutching at straws to blame the Ref this week. Three penalty appeals turned down, don't think the Ref got them all right but he did have courtesy to at least discuss his viewpoint on the decisions and that went a long way in my book - how last week’s man in black could learn from that attitude. It's missing the point anyway, shouldn't have relied on a close rulings from an official to get something from this particular game. Had so much possession during the 90 minutes, but really failed to work the Sawbo keeper on enough occasions. Plenty of crosses but little anticipation or penetration once the ball was in the box, goals not being shared around the team and that's holding us back in a big way.
Kept the ball well and generally defended solidly as per normal, no surprise as we work on that relentlessly in training. Will be concentrating on finishing this week and that's a cert, hopefully the 'harder we practice the luckier' we get maxim might click into play for next weekend.
A step back this and no doubt a knock to the confidence, lack of goals clearly affecting us psychologically and opposition content to kill the game as soon as they go ahead and who can blame them, doesn't make for a great spectacle but it's a fact of football life at the moment and we've got to live with it. We know finding the net is a problem, went with Joe Turner this week and he did well against a resolute defence, trod a tightrope after an early booking but all in all can be satisfied with his contribution.
Bethnal Green next week and on paper an intriguing match in prospect, no longer just the surprise packets of the season, they've shown they’re the real deal and a good outside bet for the league, In regular touch with the BGU management team but all bets off as soon as that whistle goes, will be looking to severely dent their title charge and they'll be expecting nothing less, could be some real fireworks in this one and that's just on the touchlines so watch this space.
