A bad day at the office by any stretch of the imagination. Even the programme notes proclaimed ' Barking Mugs ' directly under the match review - an apt summing up on the day.
No point hiding from the truth, we got exactly what we deserved - second best all over the park and giving the league leaders a goal in seconds - footballing suicide and doubly disappointing in front of the season's biggest crowd.
No positives to take from this - there must be a response at Basildon next week. Being outplayed I can accept but to be outfought and outbattled is not on Steve's or my agenda and will be addressed. We were both hurt and embarrassed by this display. We called for honesty and heart and these players have got but it was missing on the day.
To give the players credit I know they're hurting too. We had a heart to heart after the game and they were doing the talking which was good to hear - they now need to back up words with action. The ball's now in their court rather than in the back of our net. We won't dwell on this too long, it's
already history. We need to regroup, refocus and get back on track for some big games ahead. You're only as good as your NEXT game as I hope Saturday will prove.
