October 26th - Pyne - the Bower Ranger

It was back to basics this week and a deserved victory against one of the league's more fancied teams. Even the team talk was simple, believe in your ability and score more goals than them, nothing more complicated than that and I think it worked. Did have to battle mind, tried to get the ball down and play but when it mattered were content to put the ball in the trees and that was the recipe for success.

Bowers short of a few key players but Migsy, Steads, Hoppo and Johnny Offs all sidelined for us so had little bearing on the game,5 very disappointed subs for us and that shows the strength in depth at the moment

Felt we were always edging this one, Bowers dangerous but often through a more direct route, played the better football and produced the one real moment of quality to break the deadlock. Spoke at half time about converting possesion into end product and ultimately a goal and the winner couldn't have illustrated the point better- Sweet interchange of passes. pinpoint cross and a cool finish from Pyney that will do his confidence a power of good. Moments of quality win football matches and we need to produce them more often, hopefully this was a start. Hanging on by the end but it would have been much more comfortable had Jared's strike been allowed to stand, felt he was onside as he turned his defender who seemed to slip before finishing cooly- only glad it had no bearing in the long run.

Word of praise for Ref and standard of officiating particularly good in last three games, stark contrast to some who have gone before this season, here he talked to players and management like human beings and gave a clear view of his interpretation even on incidents where you might not have agreed with him. All you can ask for from the man in charge so credit where credit due-made it into an even contest from which the best team on the day normally wins and that's how it should be.

League panning out into a tight affair so now need we can get a run going and look to break into top six. Clapton away this week, the game's winnable but they present a real threat to the unprepared  so under no illusions it will be a tight, hard fought affair. Won by the odd goal in nine in the corresponding fixture this time last year so not one for the faint hearted or with medical issues, might have to put a red cross on the Clapton club house judging by the look of our Secretary and some of our supporters in recent games - here's hoping not.
