Joe Staunton: appearance centurion
Sunday November 27th 2016
Yesterday we welcomed another player to our ever expanding '100 club' when Joe Staunton made the round 100 in our home league game against Basildon United. Chairman Rob O'Brien presented Joe with a silver salver on behalf of the club.
Joe joined us in November 2013 announcing via his twitter account that he was "coming out of retirement" to play for Barking FC and subsequently made his debut on November 30th in a 3-0 league win over Southend Manor. His first goal arrived in April 2014 during a 2-1 defeat to Hullbridge Sports.
Joe's most memorable moment in a Barking shirt was to score the opening goal in our Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy win in May 2015, this was described in our match report as: "Barking took the lead on the stroke of half time thanks to a moment of individual brilliance as a long throw came to Joe Staunton the right edge of the box, who controlled it before perfectly executing a looping volley which curled and dipped past the outstretched hand of the goalkeeper and into the top left corner of the net."
It was a great moment on a great day for the club.
Below is Joe's full senior record for Barking FC up to and including yesterday:
Below are some photos of Joe during his Barking career so far:
We would like to thank Joe for his continued loyalty and efforts for the club and wish him many more appearances, assists and goals in the future.
