Reserves bring home the silverware - Sunday May 2nd 2010

CUP SUCCESS CROWNS BLUES SEASON

Our successful reserve team, ably managed and coached by Rob O'Brien and Jeff Sears, won the Essex, Hertfordshire and Bordering Counties Combination Cup yesterday in front of a crowd of 94 people. Ben O'BRIEN opened the scoring and Dan COSSINGTON scored in added time to make the score line more reflective of our young side's domination of a strong and experienced Great Wakering Rovers Reserves team.

This was our sixth meeting of the season and we have now won four, drawn one and lost one. Rovers' victory was in the final of the Brian Hitchings Memorial Trophy by 2-1 and they also beat us 3-2 after extra time in last season's Combination Cup final which made yesterday's success all the more welcome.

So cup final victory came at the third attempt against Rovers but the old saying third time lucky had no relevance on this occasion as this result was fully deserved.

We have had a good season in the Combination, finishing third, and have won 11, drawn four and lost just three of our last 18 games in combination and cups. We have won 16, drawn seven and only lost seven of our last 29 games.
