Barkingside 1

Barking kept their impressive league form since their defeat to Barkingside by gaining some revenge thanks to a 3-1 victory over ‘Side at Mayesbrook Park. Goals for Brad Ling, James Peagram and John Bricknell gave the Blues all three points. The Blues will look to continue their good form with some Friday night football against Haringey & Waltham Development.

It was a first half of few chances – with only one attempt of note for either side in the first 30 minutes – John Bricknell seeing his tenth minute turn and shot collected by the Barkingside goalkeeper Sam Roach at the second attempt. The half hour mark saw Barking take the lead as Joe Staunton collected the ball deep in the Blues’ half where he launched a pinpoint crossfield ball to the feet of Brad Ling who controlled the ball magnificently from just outside the box he took two defenders on the outside leading to him being just inside the box. From here he chipped the ball in a cross/shot to the far post but instead of finding James Peagram at the far post it found its way into the net over the outstretched hand of Roach for only his second goal in a Barking shirt. Barkingside came close to an equaliser five minutes later as striker Luke With passed wide to their right winger who cut inside but curled his effort wide of the post. Barkingside amped up the pressure and two minutes later With set the left wing attacker through on goal who under pressure from Timi Abiola was able to poke the ball towards goal – with Jason Willis beaten Ling was there to try to clear the danger but only succeeded in poking it towards goal before recovering hack the ball away as it threatened to cross the line. The resultant long throw was well caught by Willis who immediately launched the ball high over the defenders where it found James Peagram one-on-one with Roach where he comfortably took the ball to the left of Roach before powerfully side footing the ball into the net to double Barking’s lead when they could easily have been pegged back moments earlier. With had one final chance in the first half for ‘Side but Willis stood tall in goal to prevent With taking the ball past him.

Joe Pearman had an early chance for a Barking third after good play by Paul Oshin and Peagram but he dragged his shot wide of the target. A minute later and it seemed Barking would pay for their missed chances as With took the ball past two defenders but he smashed the ball into the side netting. Willis was forced into a fantastic save after 57 minutes as With again caused dangers as he stooped to head a powerful right wing cross but Willis was down quickly to get a hand to the ball before punching the ball away from danger while still on the floor. Barking gained more a foothold in the game after this chance as it took until the 70th minute for the next chance but it again fell to the away side but a dangerous free kick was comfortably over the bar. Just before the free kick Omari Delgado was introduced as a sub for the Blues making his debut and he was nearly involved in a goal just ten minutes after coming on as after good play by Oshin he saw his shot blocked before laying across to Peagram who volleyed over the bar. Delgado also tried to play the ball over the top to Peagram but this time he was denied by the goalkeeper as he tried to go through on goal. Delgado continued to be in the thick of the action as he smashed the ball across goal from the right wing but as Peagram tried to volley the ball into the net from close range it got stuck between his legs and he was unable to capitalise. Delgado rounded off an impressive cameo in injury time as Peagram attempted to put him through on goal – the defender was able to intercept the ball but Roach has also come out to smother the ball and in this attempt he took the legs of Delgado leading to a penalty. John Bricknellstepped up and planted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net even with Roach diving the right way.
