A late double by James Peagram secured all three points for the Blues in a 3-1 win away at Sawbridgeworth. Steve Willis opened the scoring after 21 minutes before Toby Cleaver equalised in the final ten minutes but the two late goals by Peagram gave Barking the win.

Barking had four half chances in the first 15 minutes – firstly Peagram denied by a combination of the goalkeeper and centre back after a minute before he struggled to get a header on target five minutes later. He then drove a dangerous ball across goal but it was just too powerful for Joe Staunton who couldn’t direct the ball while stretching towards goal. A Brad Ling cross was headed over by John Bricknell before the Blues (playing in Yellow) finally took the lead after 21 minutes as Ben O’Brien headed the ball towards goal – a mix up between defender and goalkeeper meant he had a second chance and volleyed the ball towards goal where it was met by Steve Willis who directed the ball into the net with his head. Sawbo had a chance for an instant equaliser but it was comfortably wide. There was another dangerous moment in the Barking box after 33 minutes but a dangerous cross flashed across goal with no Sawbo player able to get a touch on it. Barking nearly doubled their lead after 36 minutes from another corner but Paul Oshin’s shot was cleared off the line.

The second half was full of chances for both sides- Peagram nearly doubled the lead in the first five minutes after he beat the offside trap but the goalkeeper was able to palm the ball away. A minute later and Peagram turned provider for Pearman but he blasted his attempt over the bar. A Sawbridgeworth counter attack five minutes later saw a shot go across Hatton in goal but comfortably wide. The pressure from the side was not lifted as they also saw a header at the far post go wide of the goal.  Peagram came close after a long throw skidded through but his acrobatic effort was just wide. Peagram had another good chance a minute later (66th) as he got through on goal but tried to bend the ball around the goalkeeper but could only find the side netting. It seemed Barking were to be punished for their profligacy after 82 minutes – as the Blues failed to clear a cross – Hatton fumbled the ball – possibly due to consistent driving rain and Toby Cleaver pounced to slot the ball home. The level score line lasted four minutes – from the halfway line Joe Pearman released Petrit Elbi who squared the ball from the right wing of the box to James Peagram who this time took his chance as he sidefooted low and powerfully into the net. Barking continued to push and the duo linked up again a minute later as Elbi drove across the halfway line bringing centre backs out of position leaving James Peagram in acres of space as he beat the offside trap from Elbi’s through ball to slot home and secure all three points.

Peagram had one final chance for a hat trick from a free kick from the left wing as he swung it into the box – as it evaded everyone in the box it bounced towards goal but Tuzzeo in the Sawbo goal was alive to the possibly and dove across goal to palm it away. That was the last action of the game as Barking secured all three points.
