Five-star Barking bury London Bari

Barking extended their lead at the top of the Essex Senior League table to eight points with a comfortable win over Bari at Mayesbrook Park last night.

Blues went into the match on the back of a 3-1 victory over Sawbridgeworth Town at the weekend, while Bari had not played for 10 days since their 2-1 home win over Redbridge.

The home side had to wait until just past the half-hour mark to open the scoring when Petrit Elbi’s cross found James Peagram, who converted for his 27th goal of the campaign.

And it was 2-0 six minutes before the break when more good work from Elbi and Paul Oshin set up the predatory JamesPeagram for his second of the night.

Peagram was then brought down in the box just before the hour mark, allowing John Bricknell to convert from the spot for Barking’s third goal.

And it was 4-0 midway through the second half when Peagram produced a chance for Petrit Elbi to round Wilkinson Boateng and finish calmly.

Captain Ben O’Brien, making his 285th appearance for the club, made way for Omari Delgado and the substitute completed Barking’s nap hand with 10 minutes remaining with an excellent shot on the turn into the roof of the net.

That made it 16 goals in just 10 starts for Delgado and five successive wins in all competitions for Barking, now well clear of second-placed Southend Manor, who drew 2-2 at Basildon United, and with three games in hand on their title rivals.

Barking will now turn their attention to welcoming old rivals Ilford, who were held to a 2-2 draw themselves by Haringey & Waltham, on Saturday in their last match of 2016.
