FC Romania 2
Barking 5

Barking secured a convincing 5-2 victory over title rivals FC Romania thanks to a four goal blitz in the first half after goals by Petrit Elbi, Joe Pearman, Ben Higgs and James Peagram. Romania scored early in the second half before late goals for either side with Joe Pearman getting his second before a consolation goal for the home side.

Petrit Elbi opened the scoring for the Blues (playing in blue shirts and yellow shorts) as a Ricky Tarbard cross from the left wing beat everyone until it found Ben Higgs as the far post who laid it back to the Barking striker who jinked his way past one defender putting the ball onto his left foot before shooting across the goalkeeper in the right corner of the net. Romania came close to an equaliser five minutes later from a long range thunderbolt that left Hatton beaten but it smacked the post. Barking had their second just before 20 minute mark as a long ball forced the goalkeeper to race out of the box to clear the ball but it fell to the feet of Joe Pearman who set himself before shooting from 40 yards – with the goalkeeper looking up to the sky as it looped over him and hit the inside of the post before going across the line. It was 3-0 moments later as Elbi played Ben Higgs through on goal, again the goalkeeper rushed the ball but Higgs got there first to poke the ball past him – this took him wide of goal but he had the time to cut back inside and direct the ball into the net. Barking’s incredible goalscoring continued on the half hour mark as Higgs turned provider – his low ball across the box was deflected by a defender towards goal – it hit the goalkeeper before hitting the bar and then falling at the feet of James Peagram who toepoked the ball into the net to give Barking a 4-0 lead at half time.

FC Romania cut into the four goal lead immediately after the break as some lovely football led to an aerial through ball which Steve Willis just couldn’t reach leaving Andreas Kelemen to pounce and advance on Rob Hatton’s goal before shooting low and hard finding the net with a little help from the inside of the post. Barking nearly made it five from a counterattack five minutes later as Pearman’s deflected pass put Peagram through on goal, he managed to round the goalkeeper but a defender was able to recover and block the shot en route to goal. Barking managed to keep Romania at bay and nearly extended the lead with 25 minutes remaining as Steve Willis intercepted an attack before laying off the ball to Pearman who passed to Peagram down the right wing who crossed low across the box where the ball to Elbi but the bobble meant he couldn’t get a clean connection on the ball and it flew wide. Barking did get their fifth with 80 minutes on the clock as after winning the ball in midfield Elbi held the ball up before releasing Joe Pearmanthrough on goal who took his time before wrong-footing the goalkeeper and slotting the ball across the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner of the net.

There was nearly a sixth thanks to chances for Ricky Tarbard and Paul Oshin but it was Romania who scored a late consolation Sergiu Pitaru saw a shot hit the post before tapping in the rebound
