Barking 1
Ilford 2

Barking were defeated by Ilford at Mayesbrook Park by a 2-1 score line after a first goal by Ajibola Ashnike and a second half goal by former Blue Wale Odedoyin. Joe Pearman managed to get a goal back late on but it was not enough for Barking who suffered only their third defeat of the season.

Barking came closest first after nine minutes as Omari Delgado was fouled near the box leading to a dangerous free kick. James Peagram stepped up and saw his effort go over the wall and beat Chris Clark in the Ilford goal but it hit the root of the post and bounced away from danger. Two minutes later and Ilford had their first dangerous attack as another former Blue Sipho Mtyanda saw his effort go over the bar. Ilford did have the breakthrough at the 18 minute mark as a corner was sent to the far post where it was met by the head of Ashnike who headed the ball into the ground and it bounced into the net. Ilford saw a few half chances saved by Hatton before controversy struck in the 3th minute. Matheus Santos found himself attacking goal in the right wing of the box – he powered the ball across goal where Omari Delgado managed to bundle the ball into the net – however as Santos was crossing the ball he was scythed down by an Ilford defender and in the extremely short period that followed before Delgado bundled the ball into the net the referee conspired to give a penalty to Barking and disallow the goal.  Despite the protestations Petrit Elbi stepped up to take the penalty to further exacerbate the situation Chris Clark was equal to the penalty as he dived to his right to palm the penalty away and keep Ilford in the lead. There was one final chance for Barking as Elbi’s cross was headed to the far post by Peagram but Omari Delgado sliced his volley wide.

The first chance of the second half fell to the Blues after three minutes as a corner fell to Billy Rix who volleyed towards his goal but it was deflected en route with Clark able to palm the ball away.  With 50 minutes gone Ilford punished the Blues for their profligacy as they attacked down the left wing with a driven cross finding Wale Odedoyin at the far post to sidefoot home. The Blues continued to press and after 59 minutes saw a volley by Elbi denied by Clark before Ben O’Brien hooked the rebound onto the bar. Sub Glen Golby also saw a volley go just wide of the post. There were half chances for Joe Pearman and Petrit Elbi but it was Joe Pearman who clawed a goal back as the game entered its last ten minutes. Two substitutes combined as Beau Shulman’s long ball was flicked on by makeshift striker Golby towards the feet of Joe Pearman who shot low and across Clark into the left side of the net.

Despite Barking managing to dominate possession in the last minutes Ilford kept it tight and prevented the Blues from making chances to grab the equaliser – with James Peagram having the only chance of note which was over the bar. Barking now enter their winter break with no fixtures for approximately a month.
