HEAD INJURY CAUSES ABANDONMENT
A potential serious injury suffered by Barking striker Charlie MacDonald led to the 65th minute abandonment of this fixture and this led to the calling of the emergency services to Mayesbrook Park.
The match opened well for the home side as Barking raced into a two-nil lead within the first twenty minutes, Olumide Oluwatimilehin gave Barking the lead after seven minutes as he volleyed home the rebound from a George Purcell free kick. On 17 Charlie MacDonald doubled the lead with a tidy outside of the foot finish as Oluwatimilehin turned provider. The Blues were pegged back however as Kahlil Kirwan-Meade in the 26th minute but the Blues went in a goal to the good at the interval.
However, four minutes after the break a penalty from Greg Akpele levelled the score. Unfortunately, proceedings were bought to a halt early after MacDonald’s injury and an ambulance was called causing the referee to abandon the game. The match will be replayed on a date to be confirmed.
On Saturday evening Charlie MacDonald issued the following statement via social media:
“I would like to thank Ally Maloney, all my teammates and staff at Barking FC. Great news – my CT results revealed no fracture. I have severe whiplash & muscle sprains in my neck, back & shoulders! Hopefully I won’t be out for too long thank you for all your kind messages everyone.”
