REPORT

BARKING ARE FOUR-MIDABLE AT FRENFORD

In a commanding display the yellow shirted Blues secured a resounding 4-0 victory over Frenford, with all our goals coming from debutants.

After an important point last week at Saffron Walden we secured our first away win in the league this season along with our first shutout since August.in a very satisfactory afternoon at the Jack Carter centre which was only slightly marred by Luke Hirst’s late red card.

We had six new signings on display today: Declan Nche who grabbed the headlines with a hat trick on his debut, this was the first since Omari Delgardo did so against Haringey & Waltham Development in October 2016, Tony Martin who also marked his debut with a goal, goalkeeper Ben Lane with a debut clean sheet and who performed more than competently between the sticks, Shay La-Rose who was briefly with us pre season and coming on from the bench in the second half Joshua Fisayo and Chris Manangu.

The action kicked off early in the first minute when a cross by Shay La-Rose found Tony Martin’s head, but unfortunately, it sailed over the bar. The breakthrough came in the ninth minute when Luke Hirst’s cross was blocked but the rebound set up Declan Nche from outside the box, who confidently fired home to give Barking a 1-0 lead.

Barking continued to press, earning a corner three minutes later and when  Kenedi  Dariri’s header hits the bar, the ball was cleared to Jack Folan, whose shot was just wide. The momentum stayed with Barking as Hirst’s shot was blocked in the 17th minute by the legs of Frenford keeper Matt Knight, only for Declan Nche to follow up and score his and Barking’s second goal.

The second half continued in a similar vein with Barking content to absorb pressure and hit Frenford on the counter. After seven minutes a brilliant cross by La-Rose narrowly eluded Greg Akpele and from the resulting corner, Dariri’s header was saved easily. In the 59th minute Hirst drew a foul and showed he was paying attention when others were not by taking a quick free kick which found Declan Nche, who fired home to complete his hat trick and extend Barking’s lead to 3-0.

The onslaught continued and Barking notched their fourth goal in the 67th minute: Brad Rowland’s free kick sliced through the Frenford defence, allowing Tony Martin to slide in and score on his debut.

Despite Frenford pressing forward, Barking still looked dangerous on the counter. However, in the 81st minute Hirst received a second yellow card and was dismissed for a retaliatory foul after in his view not getting a free kick earlier. In the last minute Frenford did manage to find the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside and this put the seal on Barking’s impressive 4-0 victory.

On Tuesday evening we are at home in the first round of the London Senior cup to Leyton Orient FC with a 7:45pm kick off.
