REPORT
ITS GO GO NGOO
Barking edged past Hullbridge Sports with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a debut goal from Michael Ngoo. While the game lacked clear cut chances, Barking’s solid defensive performance ensured their unbeaten run since Craig Edwards return was extended to six matches across league and cup competitions.
Barking started brightly but failed to carve out any meaningful opportunities. Around the ten minute mark, Hullbridge showed some intent, with Mechack Asuka firing wide when well-positioned. In the 23rd minute Juwon Akintunde was forced off after a collision, replaced by Michael Ngoo. The debutant immediately made his presence felt. In the 29th minute, Ngoo embarked on a twisting run into the box, but his cross lacked a finishing touch. Just a minute later, Michael Ngoo took on Akiljo Balliu’s pass, twisting and firing a low, powerful shot past Hullbridge’s former Barking goalkeeper Laurence Whymark for the game’s only goal.
The second half mirrored the first, with both teams enjoying spells of possession but struggling to create clear chances. Hullbridge’s best opportunity came in the 68th minute when a goalmouth scramble was blocked and cleared to safety at the expense of a corner. Barking responded with a brief flurry, culminating with Sam Edwards hitting the bar from a corner in the 77th minute.
No doubt we will look to carry this confidence onto our next fixture which is in seven days’ time when we make the short trip to the Jack Carter Centre next Saturday.
